The beast inside the timeline

Keyframe Monster makes rendering plugins for After Effects: 3D fractals, physical skies, refractive glass, and 3D magazines, written directly for the GPU and delivered as effects.

How it started

Every motion designer knows the moment: a shot calls for a 3D fractal, a real sky, or glass that bends light, and After Effects alone cannot quite get there. The usual fix is to leave the comp, render in another app, import a sequence, and hope the client does not ask for a change.

Keyframe Monster started to get rid of that detour. Each plugin is written directly for the GPU, runs inside AE, follows the comp camera and lights, and renders at up to 32 bits, like a native effect.

The name comes from the linear keyframe, the diamond on the timeline. The Plugin, our mascot, is that keyframe with eyes and teeth.

Purpose

Get the shots that currently call for another app or a fragile rig out of your way.

Who it is for

Production companies that need consistent results at scale, and freelancers who need to look like a whole studio.

Promise

Flávio Takemoto

Founder and plugin developer

Art director, motion designer, and digital product creator with more than 15 years across design, motion, and technology. He started out as a developer and web designer at 16, and created his first motion design project in 2005.

After years on the user side of the tools, he moved to the builder side. Today he writes C++ on the After Effects SDK, GLSL and HLSL shaders, and OpenGL and DirectX 12 render pipelines, always thinking like an animator: what matters is a control that makes sense in Effect Controls and a frame that comes out right.

At Keyframe Monster, he builds the plugins from end to end: from the idea to the shader, from the Effect Controls panel to the tests that prove every control changes pixels.

Personality

  • Bold

Maximum contrast, oversized type, solid color. The work gets noticed.

  • Fearless

Take on the render no one else wants to try.

  • Creative

The user’s work takes center stage.

  • Avant-garde

Research-driven technology like raymarching and atmospheric physics, before it becomes the norm.

The scene

The idea is to back the creative community: challenges, breakdowns, open presets, and the work of artists using the tools front and center.
