KFM 3D Fractal Pro 1.0

3D fractals with lighting, materials, and camera control.

Fly through a crystal cave, dive into a zoom that never ends, and make surfaces glow and light the world around them, all inside After Effects. KFM 3D Fractal Pro follows the comp camera and lights and renders at up to 32 bits.

  • 12 formulas

  • 6 materials per slot

60–90 s, 1920×1080, with no narration or a short voiceover. Open on a looping Macro Zoom, move into Cave World with the lantern, then switch materials live in Effect Controls. Close with the Plugin’s bite.

A fractal as an object, not a texture

In After Effects, a fractal usually means a texture—noise, clouds, or fire. Here it is a real 3D object with a surface, materials, shadows, and a camera. It is the kind of image that used to call for another app and an imported sequence, but now lives on the timeline like any other effect.

Adjust the controls

This browser preview uses just one formula; in After Effects, all four can be combined with materials, comp lights, and the final polish.

  • 04

    Infinite loop

Macro Zoom closes the cycle seamlessly, ready for stage screens, LED walls, or event backgrounds.

  • 05

    Product and luxury

Glass, Rutilated Crystal, and Psychedelic Chrome as a packshot set.

  • 06

    Finishing and compositing

Depth Pass and Normal Pass for DOF, relighting, and integration with the rest of the comp.

See what it does

Twelve formulas, four slots

Each slot has its own formula, with dynamic names, ranges, and patterns. Slots 2–4 combine with the first using Smooth Merge, Hard Cut, or Intersect, with no seams.

  • Mandelbulb
  • Mandelbox
  • Pseudo-Kleinian
  • Menger Sponge
  • Polyhedral KIFS
  • Apollonian
  • Kalibox
  • BoxBulb Hybrid
  • Quaternion Julia
  • Cave World
  • Quaternion Mandelbrot
  • Hypercomplex Julia

Macro Zoom: the infinite loop

With self-similar formulas like Menger and Polyhedral KIFS, Macro Zoom scales around the formula’s own fixed point and fills the space with its expanding shapes. Each cycle ends where it began: an infinite zoom with no precision limit. Animate Zoom Levels linearly and the speed stays constant.

Deep Zoom: dive into the surface

For formulas that are not self-similar, Deep Zoom finds an exact target on the surface before each frame, then scales around it. The target stays fixed on screen as everything grows around it, without drifting off into nowhere.

Cave World and Camera Lantern

An endless cave to fly through: rocky floor and ceiling, stalactites and stalagmites, pillars, and clusters of hexagonal crystals that shine like glass. Twelve controls shape the world, and Camera Lantern keeps a light attached to the camera.

4D Forms

Quaternion Julia gets continuous Power, rotation of its 3D slice through 4D space (XW, YW, ZW), and a closed orbit for constant C. Quaternion Mandelbrot and Hypercomplex Julia round out the family.

Emissive Light

Emissive pieces and Cave World crystals light their neighbors: short rays look for nearby emission, and anything blocking those rays casts a shadow. Choose Off, Fast, Quality, or Ultra.

Harmonic Palette Engine

Palettes are built in OKLCH from style, harmony, hue, saturation, and lightness, then perceptually interpolated in the shader. Weathering darkens crevices, creates strata, and fades exposed faces; Growth Cover settles moss, ice, or sand on upward-facing surfaces.

Pieces

Each formula separates its geometry into structural pieces: Mandelbulb lobes, Menger subcubes, Apollonian cells, and Cave World formations. Select pieces for an accent color or emission, then animate which ones are selected with Evolution.

Materials and environments

Six material models per slot, with mix, roughness, metalness, transmission, IOR, clearcoat, subsurface, internal glow, thin-film, and inclusions. Six procedural environments feed reflections and refraction.

  • Frosted Glass
  • Rutilated Crystal

  • Psychedelic Chrome

AE camera, lights, and lens

New instances use the active comp camera by default, with manual or native DOF. Up to eight AE lights are carried into the render in color: Parallel, Spot, Point, Ambient, and Environment. Shadows, true distance-field AO, and approximate GI complete the lighting.

Deep Glow HDR and post

Multiscale HDR glow over the image, the emission buffer, or both, with exposure, soft knee, six falloffs, distortion, and chromatic aberration on the halo only. An independent Lens Distortion completes the stack.

Outputs for compositing

Along with the beauty pass, the plugin provides passes ready for your comp.

  • Metallic
  • Heat Tint
  • Holographic Normals
  • Depth Pass
  • Normal Pass

Questions

Is there a CPU fallback?

No. The plugin requires a GPU: if the OpenGL context, shader, or readback fails, AE receives the error instead of a black frame.

Does it work on Mac?

No. The plugin runs on Windows x64 with OpenGL 3.2.

Does it work at 16 and 32 bpc?

Yes, at 8, 16, and 32 bpc, in Full, Half, Third, and Quarter resolution, with tiles and ROI.
